About the Church Business Manager Position:

The Church Business Manager is a vital member of the staff of Point Washington United Methodist Church. The Church Business Manager, along with the Communications and Operations Coordinator, are the primary administrative lay staff who help provide the support and resources necessary for the various ministry areas of the church, allowing these ministries to fulfill our mission is To Know Christ, To Love Christ, To Make the Love of Christ Known.


General Description:  The Church Business Manager is responsible for planning, organizing and conducting the business functions of the church, including budgeting, contracting, financial management, bookkeeping, and records administration. The Church Business Manager is the primary lay staff liaison to the relevant committees of the church including the audit, facilities and operations, finance, personnel and stewardship committees.  In carrying out these responsibilities, he or she oversees contractor personnel.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Profess Christianity and uphold the most recent version of The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church
  • Bookkeeping and Accounting: Performs all financial processes of PWUMC, including but not limited to accounting operations, generation of financial statements, facilitating the annual audit process, meeting internal reporting requirements, conducting accounts reconciliation, and ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Budgeting and Planning: Supports annual budget development and execution, including timely and accurate reporting to the Senior Pastor, relevant committees, and financial contributors.
  • Recordkeeping: Ensures the maintenance and security of records, including compliance with relevant records system requirements and records retention policies.  Meets, or ensures, the meeting of all reporting requirements of the Alabama-West Florida Conference and the United Methodist Church and applicable state and local governments.  Advises church staff and relevant committees of those requirements.
  • Procedural Management: Maintains familiarity with relevant manuals and procedures, including PWUMC’s finance and personnel manuals, the safe sanctuary policy, conference and denominational handbooks, procedures and other instructions.  Provides for the updating of finance and personnel manuals and procedures, initiating appropriate changes when required by changes in state, federal or church law or in response to changes initiated by the relevant PWUMC committees.
  • Personnel Management: Facilitates human resource management under the direction of the Senior Pastor, orienting new personnel in personnel policies and procedures, the provisions of the personnel manual, payroll procedures, and entitlement to benefits.  Maintains personnel records and provides for their security and limiting access to those with a need to know.  Provides information to the personnel committee for compensation planning, compliance with performance management, and currency of position descriptions. 
  • Meetings: Attends and constructively participates in staff meetings, conveying relevant information and responding constructively and collaboratively to inquires or requests for assistance.  Meets with committees for whom the Church Business Manager is the staff liaison, exchanging information, and acts within established priorities to requests for information or assistance.
  • Reporting: Periodically reports the status of operations to the Senior Pastor; keeps the Senior Pastor immediately and fully apprised of developments that might require the Senior Pastor’s intervention or which might adversely affect the operations of the church.
  • Other duties as assigned

Anticipated Time Commitments:  The Church Business Manager is a full-time non-exempt position with a weekly expectation of 30 hours per week; office hours are Monday through Thursday. A record of hours is expected.


Salary Range: Salary negotiable based on experience. Range of $20 - $25 per hour.


Supervision:  This position is under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor.


Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Experience:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as they apply to a non-profit organization
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and a wide range of business applications and systems, especially church accounting systems and other systems tailored for church and non-profit organizations. PWUMC currently uses QuickBooks online for accounting, ADP for processing payroll, and Church Community Builder for recording contributions and payments.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrated ability in constructing succinct, timely and pertinent reports.
  • Ability to work effectively, harmoniously and responsively with other staff members and congregants, including diverse groups of persons
  • A working knowledge of state and federal laws related to the functions of this position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively, ethically and firmly on behalf of the church.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and, as needed, to create and innovate.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience in business administration, finance, or accounting.

About the Audio Visual Technician Position:

Worship and fellowship gatherings of PWUMC incorporate the use of various media and technology in order to more fully engage those in music, liturgy and spoken word; in addition, videos and live feeds of our worship services are published on social media and our website for the purpose of engaging those who beyond the walls of the church. The Audio Visual Technician enables the highest quality of sound, video and other media for in-person and remote participation in our community of faith. The Audio Visual Technician will be a leader who desires to serve out of her or his dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to work with joy as a member of the body of Christ to the glory of God.

 

General Description: 

The Audio Visual Technician is an integral lay staff member who facilitates worship and fellowship gatherings of Point Washington United Methodist Church (PWUMC) by providing technical direction and support for audio, visual or other media components needed and who recruits, trains, and empowers volunteers in the area of audio visual ministry.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Profess Christianity and uphold the most recent version of The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church
  • Maintain a reliable system for providing technical support for all worship services and events. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:   Audio mixing, monitor mixing, and audio recording; lighting production; switching with multiple cameras, video recording, and live streaming production and uploading recordings to PWUMC website; ProPresenter presentation; prepare stage for rehearsals, worship services, and events
  • Initiate successful communication with pastors, Music Director, ministry leaders, and event coordinators in order to help facilitate a/v needs
  • Recruit, train, equip, schedule, and lead a/v volunteers
  • Ensure that campus technologies are in working order
  • Advise on future purchases
  • Oversee any technical installation
  • Keep reliable records for purchases and licensing
  • Attend staff, Church Council, and other meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Anticipated Time Commitments: 

The Audio Visual Technician is a part-time exempt position with a weekly expectation of 6-8 hours per week. On-site hours will include Sundays from 8am until approximately 1pm. In addition to Sundays, the Audio Visual Technician is expected to perform duties at the following special worship services: Ash Wednesday service, Maundy Thursday service, and Christmas Eve services (multiple services). Further, the Audio Visual Technician will be the primary person responsible for audio visual needs at all on-site wedding rehearsals, weddings and funerals; these services will be paid as additional salary.

 

Salary Range: Salary negotiable based on experience.


Supervision:  This position is under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor and the Music Director.


Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Experience:

  • Knowledge of audio systems and large-format digital
  • Knowledge of media in the context of worship services, specifically: live and streaming video environments; presentation software (ProPresenter); projectors, displays and video transmission
  • Knowledge of lighting in the context of worship services
  • Ability to learn and master new technology quickly and thoroughly
  • Expert knowledge of audio/video/lighting signal flows and strong ability to troubleshoot in all of these environments
  • Demonstrate an agreeable, cooperative, and positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams of volunteers and leaders
  • Ability to embrace and pursue artistic and spiritual excellence in services
  • Strong organizational abilities, time management skills, and attention to details
  • Ability to be flexible in an environment that is subject to spur of the moment change
  • Ability to coordinate several activities at once and quickly analyze and resolve specific problems
  • Formal training in production or related discipline

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
