UMM 2012 Wild Game Dinner March 10, 2012

Please make plans to join us for the annual Wild Game Dinner sponsored by the PWUMC Methodist Men on Saturday, March 10 @ 6 PM in the FLC.  The menu includes:  Wild Pig, Venison, Dove, Seafood Gumbo, Wild Game Gumbo & lots of fixins!  Cost is $20 per person and you can buy tickets at the door or early from UMM members.  Proceeds will help support many local charities, world missions and reduce the debt for our Family Life Center.  For additional info, contact Butch Phillips (BDPhillips@mchsi.com) or Ted Misseldine (missildine@mchsi.com).

Needed:  Part-time help

We are looking for someone part-time to oversee facility after-hour use and to lock-up.  This would be for 3-5 hours per week.  Please contact the church office if you are interested or would like additional information.

Lay Speaker Training Academy

Please donate to the Society of Andrews

The PWUMC UMM supports “Society of Andrews” of Big Island, VA which is a national hunger-relief ministry that feeds people in America.  It’s called “Meals for Millions”.  We are asking everyone to help by putting your loose change in the little cardboard boxes (white with red lettering) located thru-out the church.

The Missions Committee is looking for a few more dedicated members for 2012.  If you are interested, contact Nathan Bush at 850-830-5157 for more information.

No Wildside Youth Fellowship Tonight

Wildside Youth Fellowship will not meet tonight. Wildside will be back next Sunday, February 26 from 6:00 to 8:00. See you then!

Modified Big Wednesday this Week

The Youth Group’s Big Wednesday on February 22 will be a little bit different because of the Ash Wednesday Service. The schedule for this week will be as follows:

Open House from 3:30 to 5:00

A Snack Supper from 5:00 to 5:30

A Group Devotion from 5:30 to 6:30

Pick up is at 6:30

Please make note of this modified schedule and plan appropriately.

Middle School Believe Retreat, March 8-10, Sign Up Now

The Middle School Believe Retreat to Kissimmee, FL will take place March 8-10. We’ll spend a day at Universal Theme Park & 2 days at the Believe Conference. Cost is $129 & a $50 deposit holds your spot. See Paul to sign up (461-4213).

Kids Corner

Greeters and Acolytes

Greeters, age 5-3^rd grade, will be trained to open the doors, hand out bulletins and welcome people to church.  Acolytes will need to be in the 3rd to 5th grade.  Please let Marri Helen know if your child would like to help us with serving our church.

Guest Speaker:   Tommy Bowden
Tommy Bowden was born in Birmingham, AL and he is a football coach who most
recently served as Head Football Coach at Clemson 1999-2008 and Tulane
1997-1998.  He was an assistant coach at Auburn, Kentucky, Alabama, Duke,
East Carolina and Florida State with his father Bobby Bowden.  Graduate from
West Virginia and Played Football there as a walk-on in 1973-1976.  Married
to Linda White and has two children.

Our Request is for Support: This fundraiser will help us support many local activities, world missions and reduce the debt for our new Family Life Center which is open to the local community.
A door prize would be much appreciated where you can you can place your advertising.

What is the Dinner? Our church members that are hunters and fishermen will bring their game or catch prepared with their special recipes.

Why was the Family Life Center Built?
Church growth for the present and future.
The facilities are open to the community for use as an outreach missionary.

Continue reading »]]> For the first time since probably November, this week will be a normal week of meetings at Point Washington UMC Youth; with no special events or schedule changes. We hope that your child will join us for our regular weekly programs: Small Groups on Wednsday and Wildside Youth Fellowship on Sunday. While we love all of the special events, these programs are the lifeblood of the youth ministry at Point Washington Youth and consistent attendance will surely benefit your child, helping them to have a thriving relationship with Jesus and with others that are on the Christian journey.

HAPPENING THIS WEEK
Big Wednesday—Wednesday, February 8—Wednesday is “Church Day”, full of many great events for students to be involved in. Open House is from 3:30 to 5:00. Church Dinner is from 5:00 to 6:00 (please send $5). Small Groups (the key event) meet at 6:00. And final pick-up is by 8:00. Your child can come to any or all of the Big Wednesday activities.

Middle School Small Groups—Wednesday, February 8—6:00pm to 7:00pm—The 3 Middle School Small Groups will conclude their “Bible Stuff 3” study, all about hearing God’s call. As they conclude the study, they will learn three truths about God in their lives; 1.) God has a plan for them, 2.) God will be faithful to them as they follow Him, & 3.) God will surprise them as they follow Him. They will use scripture from Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 3:20, and Psalm 139:13-14.

High School Small Groups—Wednesday, February 8—6:00pm to 7:30pm—Both high school groups will continue their 4 week series called “Paul in Rome”. In this series we will continue to study the life of Paul with a special emphasis on his time in Rome. Through this study students will be challenged to stand up to the dominant culture that they live in and stand up for God and do what is right. This week they will look at and discuss the “Roman Road”; a group of verses from Paul’s letter to the Romans that highlight the truth that we have all sinned and deserve separation from God, but His gift to us through Jesus is eternal life with Him. We will use scripture from Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:13, and 10:9.

Wildside Youth Fellowship—Sunday, February 12—6:00pm-8:00pm—Wildside will meet this Sunday for another great night of fun, faith, food, and friends. All students in 6th through 12th grades are encouraged to join us for this evening of games, freetime, dinner, and a message. We will continue this week to look at the Story of God told in the New Testament. This week students will learn about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry on Earth; including His baptism, His temptation in the desert, His calling of the disciples, and His miracles. Wildside is a great opportunity for your child to invite their friends to church and see that it is a fun and exciting and welcoming place.

ON YOUR RADAR
High School Ski Trip—February 17-20—The Ski Trip is full. If your child is signed up for the trip we will meet on Friday, February 17 at 7:00am and will return on Monday, February 20 at 8:00pm. Form packets are now available. Make sure that your child picks theirs up this week! Your trip balance and forms are due on February 15.

Middle School Believe Retreat—March 8-10—The trip is currently full, but space could always open up. If your child is interested in join us, make sure to let me know so that I can put their name on the waiting list.

With so much going on, there are bound to be questions. If you have any questions or comments about the Youth program, please don’t hesitate to contact Paul Barnett anytime (461-4213). Also, if there is anything that we can do for your child or your family, please let us know.

New Set-up for Youth Sunday School
During the Sunday School hour (10-11) instead of a class, youth are participating in areas that serve the church. Currently we have youth that serve on the Praise Band, with the Children’s Ministry, and in the A/V booth. There are many more opportunities. This is a great chance for our youth to serve the church. If you’re interested in getting involved, come any Sunday morning at 10am and Paul will get you plugged in.

Youth Flag Football Super Bowl This Afternoon (No Wildside)
The Youth Group will have its 7th Annual Flag Football Super Bowl game this afternoon from 3-4:30 at Bay Elementary Field. The game is co-ed and is open to all students in grades 6-12. This event is in place of our normal Wildside Youth Fellowship tonight.

Kids Corner
A huge Thanks to everyone who donated books! We reached our goal of 300 and I’ll be taking them to the Bruce UMC next week for the distribution to local families.

Treasure Tubs for Thailand
MP Kids are still selling Krispy Kreme Donut Certificates to benefit Treasure Tubs for Thailand $7/doz thru Feb. 5th. Certificates will be in on Feb. 13th.

Parenting Classes using the curriculum: Becoming a Love and Logic Parent®
The PWUMC Preschool is providing a class on parenting. This program is appropriate for parents and educators of toddlers to teenagers. This is a 7 week class. Two classes are offered. Tuesday from 9:15-11:15am beginning on Jan 31st and Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30pm beginning on Feb 2nd. Registration deadline is January 23rd. Registration forms and class information can be picked up from the counter at the preschool office in the FLC.

Attention all high school and middle school students: Wildside is back! Wildside Youth Fellowship, your place for fun, food, faith, and friends will returns this Sunday, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Don’t miss a week!

High School Ski Retreat, February 17-20, Sign Up Now
Our annual High School Ski Retreat to Lake Junaluska, NC will take place February 17-20. We will spend two days on the slopes and have three evenings of worship through teaching, music, and games at the Infuse Conference. Cost is $249 and a $100 deposit holds your spot.
