As you can all tell from reading the page regarding our end-of-year financial report, the church came out amazingly strong for 2011! All of you are to be commended for such faithfulness, and God is to be highly praised for inspiring such response! We should all pause and rejoice, and then we should contemplate what this signifies about our capacity to expand our witness for Christ in many directions. Rather than seeing these results as an end-product, we should see them as a new beginning of service possibilities, as an exciting summons to go find out what God has in mind for us. In that spirit, let the page be turned and a new chapter begun! It is fun and rewarding to have all our winter friends back with us in worship and other activities. Our crowds are reflecting this and the added strength it gives to us all is indeed a blessing. We encourage you who are here for this season to engage in the life of PWUMC in every way you can. Thank you for being in our family these months. We all appreciate you! As you know, I have been in the process of selling my Montgomery house and transitioning myself and my family to other living arrangements. January has been the climax of this, and has necessitated my absence from our community for a large chunk of time. I am now back to more normal patterns of life here, but I want to thank you for your patience and love and tolerance exhibited during these stressful and long days. And to those who helped load us up in Montgomery (Matt Provow and his Sigma Nu buddies) and unload here (10 of the finest men you’d ever want to know from our congregation), a most special tip of my hat! Blessings upon each one in this church for your kindnesses.
As we open the month of February, we can sense Lent just ahead of us. I will say more about that in March, but let us prepare to deepen our relationships with God and others by attention to spiritual disciplines and acts of compassion during this high and holy season. It begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, with a worship service at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary.
